HOUSTON, July 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to meet with the heads of state from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal in Washington, D.C. next week, Semafor reported on Wednesday.
If confirmed, the gathering will mark the first Trump-Africa summit during Trump's second term.
The meeting, which will take place on July 9-11, will likely focus on U.S. economic opportunities in West Africa's critical minerals sector, as well as regional security, said the report.
A wider U.S.-Africa summit, scheduled for September in New York, is currently being planned, according to the report.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a comprehensive peace agreement in Washington on Friday, pledging to end more than 30 years of conflict in the Great Lakes region.
